A Quiet Night - Tyhoyi Nochi

A Quiet Night - Tyhoyi Nochi is a piece of choral music by Ukrainian composer Natalia Tsupryk. Commissioned by SANSARA for Ukrainian Independence Day and to mark six months since the February 2022 invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces.

It is us who sing in the quiet of the night

when the inner town is silent

burying the seeds of our sighs

in the breath of black earth

- from The History of Snow by Serhiy Zhadan

(trans. Sasha Dugdale, Oksana Maksymchuk)

Filmed at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral in London on Friday 29 July 2022.
